With the election campaign officially underway, I was delighted to welcome the Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt to Bournemouth on Day 1. Penny met local volunteers in Talbot Village before I gave her a tour of our town centre.
Penny knows me. She knows how much I care about Bournemouth West and Bourne Valley. And I’m grateful she took the time to endorse me here in our hometown.
I never miss an opportunity to highlight our area's needs to government. And this trip was no different. I made sure the Leader of the House left with the understanding that if re-elected, the next Conservative Government must continue to help us build Bournemouth back.
Her visit is a sure sign of the importance the Conservative Party puts on our area. But when it comes to supporting Bournemouth, Conservative Governments have always put their money where their mouth is, through:
-
the £250m 'once-in-a-generation' transformation of our local hospitals
-
rebuilds of Oak Academy, Bourne Academy and St. Aldhelm's Academy
-
Support for high street regeneration through cleaning grants, high street rental auctions and tougher powers against retail crime
-
£22m Levelling Up funding for our pier and beach infrastructure
-
and much more!
PENNY IS BACKING MY CAMPAIGN, ARE YOU?
Penny has also helped me raise important local issues with ministers following recent exchanges in the House of Commons. Most recently, I again asked for the Home Office to release the headline findings of their internal investigation into the murder of young resident Thomas Roberts.
Last year, I raised with her the case of Initiative Property Management - whose bankruptcy left residents losing access to maintenance and repairs in their properties. The Government committed to looking at any regulatory gaps, whilst I have continued to work with those affected.
Conservative Governments put Bournemouth on the agenda. If you give me the privilege of representing you again, I will keep us there.
Thank you again for your continued support.
