A massive building project is now well under way to create the new BEACH Building (Births, Emergency, And, Critical care, children’s Health) at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Poole Hospital is also undergoing an upgrade, including modernisation of operating theatres. This follows the Government’s investment of over £250 million in health services to support local people.
The new facilities at RBH will include a new purpose-built maternity unit, purpose-built children’s unit, enhanced emergency department and critical care unit, with capacity for up to 30 beds. As part of development plans, the multi-story car park will be enlarged and a new pathology hub built to provide laboratory services for the whole of Dorset. Environmental sustainability is central to these developments, and the Trust has committed £1m to support the provision of more sustainable and healthy travel options.
Conor recently visited the hospital to meet staff and see the works. Speaking after his visit he said, “It is amazing to see the vision being realised. As someone who relies on our local health services myself I saw at first hand how these new facilities will benefit us all locally. This is a clear delivery of our promise to invest in our health service and deliver front line care for those who need it.” n
