Conor initiated a debate in Parliament to highlight to Ministers the pressure we face locally, housing asylum seekers. This followed the murder sentence handed down for the killing by an asylum seeker of 21 year old local man Tom Watson with a knife.
Conor forcefully told the Minister that there had been multi-agency failure by the Police, Border Force and Children’s Services and questioned how someone who was 18 was able to claim they were 14 when dental checks proved otherwise.
Replying to the points Conor had made Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said the Government were speeding up assessment, and understood who Conor was calling for hotels in Bournemouth to be returned to their leisure and tourism use rather than be full of asylum. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s pledge to stop the small boat crossings.
