Trade and Business

During his time in public service Conor specialised in business and trade.  He was appointed Minister of State for Trade Policy in 2019, held the economic brief as Minister of State in Northern Ireland, and most recently served as the United Kingdom’s Envoy to the United States for Trade and Investment. Previously he served as a PPS in the Treasury and worked for the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as his PPS.

During his time in the various Trade roles Conor:

  • Led negotiations for the UK-US State level MOUs on trade and investment
  • Chaired the Strategic Trade Advisory Group and the Expert Trade Advisory Group
  • Oversaw the recruitment and appointment of the Chair of the Trade Remedies Authority (the body responsible for dumping and subsidy investigations, safeguarding measures and reviews of EU trade remedy measures transitioned into UK law)
  • As Bill Minister was responsible for preparation for the Trade Bill being taken through Parliament
  • He travelled extensively to north Africa, South America, Europe, the Far East and the United States
